As we celebrate Women's History Month this March, we take pride in honoring the incredible women within the Habitat MontDelco family. These women are breaking barriers in homeownership and leadership, demonstrating that determination and resilience can lead to brighter futures. At Habitat MontDelco, we witness the strength of women who make courageous strides to own their homes, spearhead initiatives, and create positive change in their communities. Their stories inspire us and serve as a powerful reminder of the impact of collective action.
Join us in celebrating the inspiring stories of remarkable women who embody this spirit.
Hear from our Female Homeowners
The dream of homeownership is a life-changing reality for many women in our community. Here are a few of their reflections:

"It’s like financial freedom, it will be great for my family." The Shorts Family
"Owning this home will change not only my life, but my kids and their kids' lives… it will change generations." The Jones Family
"Home is a place where we can build memories and spend time with family and friends." The Kichukova Family
These words reflect the profound impact of homeownership, which fosters stability and empowers women to create better futures for themselves and their families.
Celebrate Our Female Leaders
Our community flourishes because of the hard work and dedication of our female volunteers, board members, and organizational leaders. They generously contribute their time, skills, and passion to support our mission. Meet a few of these women:
Patti Post
Patti has been a devoted volunteer with Habitat MontDelco for 20 years, making a difference through her work with Women Build. Her story is a testament to the power of showing up:

“Twenty years ago, I saw an ad in the local paper for an Interest Meeting. Women Build? Turf learning construction? Help build houses for Habitat? How to use power tools? Empower yourself? I went to the meeting place only to find 125 other women who were ‘interested.’ It was crazy! Not that many came to volunteer; however, I did. I met other women who wanted all those things and more. There were 7 women who formed the core group. I had sisters! Two to this day.
One of the women and I went to Biloxi, MS, for Habitat Crew leader training later that same year. We paid for it. It was worth every penny. My local friend and I formed a team with three other regular volunteers from around the country. The five of us became HHWT - Have Hammer Will Travel. We traveled to different affiliates every couple of years to build. We built in Citrus Cty, FL; Nashville, TN; Ann Arbor, MI; Madison, WI; New Orleans, LA; Savannah, GA; Pittsburgh, PA; and Cleveland, OH.
I started with Women Build in the first year. Since then, I have lost count. 13 or so. I worked full-time and managed to volunteer 2-3 times a month from the beginning. As a retiree, I volunteer when needed. The key was to just keep showing up. Now, it’s 20 years later."
Mary Metz
Mary is a member of our Board Executive Committee and a dedicated volunteer. Her journey with Habitat MontDelco showcases her commitment to supporting our mission through various roles:

"I have been a volunteer since 2016. While I always knew about Habitat and thought volunteering would be fun, I didn't have any 'construction skills,' so I didn't pursue it. Then Habitat reached out to area banks, where I worked, to help coach participants in Habitat's financial literacy course. From there, I just kept expanding from coach to committee member, board member, construction volunteer, and ReStore volunteer.
I have enjoyed every role. Each role has been rewarding and has helped me see the world with a gentler heart. Whether it's the volunteer I work alongside with or the hopeful new homeowner, I feel that I have learned more about our community and life than I could have ever taught! Although I suspect I did teach a new skill or the ability to look at a challenge in a new way. Volunteering at Habitat never gets old.
I have been accused of being busier retired than when I worked! Currently, in addition to being an HFHMDC board member, serving on three committees, and volunteering at the ReStore, I serve as treasurer of the Montgomery County Norristown Public Library. At home, I babysit every week for my grand."
Empower Women, Build Brighter Futures
The stories of Patti, Mary, and our female homeowners are powerful reminders of the strength and resilience of women in our community. They have built homes and a legacy of empowerment, perseverance, and hope. Each step they take creates positive change that strengthens families, neighborhoods, and entire communities.

At Habitat MontDelco, we believe that when women unite—they build confidence, skills, and brighter futures. Their courage and dedication pave the way for others to follow, proving that homeownership and leadership are within reach.
This Women’s History Month, we celebrate their contributions and the collective impact of women within Habitat MontDelco. Together, we continue to break down barriers, uplift one another, and transform lives.
