President Jimmy Carter lived a life filled with compassion, humility, and a steadfast dedication to improving the world. His legacy inspires millions globally as a devoted husband, father, grandfather, great-grandfather, and leader. One of the most significant aspects of his remarkable life was his passionate advocacy for Habitat for Humanity, a cause he championed alongside his wife, Rosalynn Carter, for over three decades.

As we mourn President Carter's passing, we reflect on his tireless efforts to build homes, hope, and brighter futures for those in need. He worked with volunteers, leaders, and community members, laying the groundwork for affordable and attainable housing across the United States and beyond. President Carter's involvement with Habitat for Humanity spanned generations, and his legacy continues to influence the global movement to provide homes for those in need.

National Day of Mourning

January 9th was a National Day of Mourning in honor of President Carter. That day, we paid tribute to a remarkable humanitarian and visionary leader whose compassion and dedication transformed countless lives.

Through the collaboration of President Carter and his wife with Habitat for Humanity, more than 104,000 homes were built, renovated, or repaired in 14 countries, with thousands of volunteers working alongside them. This incredible achievement has changed the lives of many, providing families with a safe and decent place to call home.

Symbolic Door of Opportunity

A group of people commemorating former President Carter.

On January 21st, Habitat for Humanity of Montgomery and Delaware Counties (HFHMDC) commemorated President Carter's life by raising a symbolic wall with a door in the lobby of the Government Center Complex in Media, PA. The door represents the many doors of opportunity he helped make possible.

The event featured welcome remarks from HFHMDC leadership and the Delco Housing Authority, followed by reflections on President Carter's impactful contributions to housing, insights into current advocacy efforts—including a testimonial from a homeowner—and a moment of silence for reflection.

We invite you to visit the installation, now at One Montgomery Plaza in Norristown, PA, and sign the door in recognition of his efforts to advance attainable and affordable housing for those who can afford a mortgage, just not through traditional lending channels.
